"Our hut ( the white one ) has a smart, new felt roof. Thankyou very much Adam (R&S builders Southwold) for mending it so promptly - just in time as it happens !
Heavy rain fell soon after it was finished.
We are very pleased with it. The hot summer sun had caused the old felt to crack - and- when the rains did come,
we found a very soggy hut when we opened up the doors.
Luckily Adam was working nearby and came to our aid.
He kept us informed throughout the mend .
We can highly recommend him.”

Watch the kite surfers - amazing! skimming the surface of the lagoon at great speed- an incredible display of acrobatics , strength, skill and agility- a joy to watch. As the tide comes in they 'jumped the bar' setting off towards the horizon, flying further up into the air, lifted by the winds. Today, we met their coach-who is obviously very good at his job indeed. He even offered to teach us!

i have been trying to post a short video of a 3 min film, but have had no success so far. BUT - I have now looked on Google to see what I was doing wrong and hopefully this will work this time .

Actually, I don't expect I will be able to post the film as it is apparently in the wrong format for a Weebly site, but I can explain how the film was made.

Our son filmed it as part of super 8 film challenge. The participants were invited to film a 3 minute film- with NO editing, before the films were shown in a Central London cinema to a large audience. He chose Easter Sunday and filmed it in Southwold - much of it from our beach hut. It is shot from one high tide to the next, so, In a 3 minute time slot.. shows 12 hours of this very special place on the edge of the Suffolk Heritage coast,

Imagine how nervous the filmmakers must have been. They had planned their filming , but had not seen if their ideas had worked out as they hoped. They were to see the finished results in the company of experts in their field. The film may not have worked at all. The light may have ruined it. Their plans might have failed completely.

We feel he captures the timeless essence of a place where you can experience a traditional sea side holiday building memories for your family to last a lifetime. Those from my childhood resonate with me still.

For the moment though, I cannot work out how to post the MP4, so if you would like to watch it I have posted it on my face book page, the Southwold Holiday page and on the Southwold Beach hut with nearby holiday page.

It was one of those cold, bright, winter days- an ideal day to start to thinking about Christmas. We went first to The Christmas Market at The Cut at Halesworth and made a good start on our Christmas shopping.
For those of you who don't know about The Cut it is a thriving centre for arts in the community and offers music, theatre, dance, comedy, cinema, workshops and art exhibitions to the local area.It also hosts a renowned Christmas Market , held over a weekend throughout the building. Makers of all kinds, display their wares. Amongst others we met

all of whose work we greatly admire. As you can imagine. we managed to solve a few of our Christmas gift problems.
After a delicious lunch in the bustling cafe we set off for nearby Southwold to share the festivities of a street market in the 'closed for traffic' High Street, leaving the car on the off road parking space at Chestnutt Cottage.
A good move as it turned out. Parking in Southwold was very busy indeed and we enjoyed our winter's afternoon walk along Gorse Lane and the 'Gorse Lane tunnel' to Mights Bridge,before crossing the road at the roundabout by The Blyth Hotel to walk on the hedged path towards the stalls on the 'now pedestrianised' High Street.
Two friendly little reindeers were the centre of attention. I hadn't realised how furry their antlers were!
Music was played and choirs sang - till at 5pm ,the Mayor of Southwold, Matthew Horwood, and David Burrows, the new Town Crier, gave the news from the Town Hall Balcony,that Santa Claus would soon be arriving. The crowd cheered. Santa then led the count down to the Switching on of the Southwold Lights and ,on the count of 1, on went the Southwold Lights and to the singing of 'Away in a Manger' Christmas for all of us sharing this celebration had properly begun.
