Chestnutt Cottage is an ideal base for your Suffolk Walking holiday
We have maps and leaflets on the shelves in the cottage, to help you decide which walk to choose. Will it be through reeds or along the shore? Will it be exploring nearby towns or crossing the marshes to the harbour?
I love this description of the walk between Dunwich and Southwold - Home / Author Archives: Sarah Barrell from The National Geographic
" I am walking on water. Signposts on the eight-mile, looping coastal trail from Southwold to Dunwich tell me I’m on terra firma, but sea mist has turned Suffolk’s estuary laced coastal landscape into an ethereal vision. Dunes, marshes and feathered veins of rivers run fuzzy edged into the haze: a very East Anglian alchemy. Ahead, I spot one always-reliable sign of a shoreline: the waiting figure of Dani Church, pilot of the little wooden rowboat that ferries passengers across the Blyth River."
Southwold pubs welcome walkers. The Sole Bay Inn is near the lighthouse. If you sit on the benches outside the pub you can also see the sea. The Sole Bay serves excellent food as does The Red Lion and The Lord Nelson, where you can also enjoy a beer and/or an excellent meal in the open air.
